4037 - Senior Server Administrator
This Job is a Permanent role based in Jersey.
The Senior Server Administrator’s role is to design, install, administer and optimise servers and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications hosted on the server infrastructure. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure server provisioning, efficiency and maintenance is consistent with company goals, industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
• Develop strategies for server implementations and architect the infrastructure required to support those strategies.
• Act as project lead in the design and review of new server systems, applications and hardware, conduct capacity planning as needed.
• Lead, coordinate and participate in key process improvements as they relate to the server environment.
• Coordinate and collaborate with other IS teams to ensure availability, reliability and scalability of corporate servers to meet business demands.
• Establish and implement policies, procedures and technologies to ensure server security.
Deployment
• Work with storage administrators to implement server architectures that utilise industry best practices.
• Install and configure servers and corresponding software.
• Implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery to ensure effective protection and integrity of hosted applications.
• Conduct research on server hardware, software and protocols in support of procurement and development efforts.
Operational Management
• Perform tasks necessary to fulfil service level agreements regarding server performance, security and availability.
• Anticipate, mitigate, identify, respond to and resolve issues with servers.
• Check help desk database for entries on server and server resource issues; prioritise and respond to help desk tickets as appropriate.
• Serve as cornerstone for escalating server issues; provide timely response to customer escalations.
• Follow change control, incident response and testing processes for modifications to servers.
• Monitor, analyse and predict trends for server performance, capacity, efficiency and reliability and recommend enhancements to the Infrastructure Manager.
• Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance fixes and vendor-supplied patches.
• Define and implement strategies for integrating disparate operating environments.
• Develop, document and maintain operational processes and tasks.
• Develop and maintain server documentation.
• Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Position Requirements
Formal Education & Certification
• Windows MCSE/MCITP-Enterprise and VMware VCP VI3 or VSphere
Knowledge & Experience
• At least five years’ equivalent work experience in a senior technical position responsible for managing server environments.
• Good understanding of server architecture design techniques, theories, principles and practices.
• Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting servers including Microsoft Windows and VMware ESX.
• Advanced knowledge of Windows server OS (2003+) and VMware ESX (3+).
• Strong working knowledge of SAN and NAS storage, as well as Active Directory
• Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware and associated network equipment, including SCSI, RAID and I/O topology.
• Experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools.
• Experience with TCP/IP and network protocols and firewall management
• Project management experience desired.
